A Juneau helicopter glacier tour lifts off from the city and lands directly on glacial terrain that is otherwise inaccessible on foot. Choosing the Right Tour

Helicopter Glacier Walkabout — from $499 per person

The Walkabout is the entry point for glacier access by helicopter. The 3.25-hour total includes roughly 30 minutes of flight and 1 hour walking on the glacier surface. This format suits travelers who want direct glacier contact without a strenuous itinerary.

Helicopter Glacier Trek — from $549 per person

The Trek extends the glacier experience to 2 hours on the ice within a 4.25-hour total tour. The additional time allows for a more thorough exploration of the glacial terrain, including the shifting crevasse fields and ice formations that define the Juneau Icefield.

Helicopter Glacier Ice Climbing Tour — from $599 per person

Also 4.25 hours total with 2 hours on the glacier, the Ice Climbing Tour adds a technical element to the surface time. This option is suited to guests who want a physically active experience on the ice rather than a guided walk.

Taku Glacier Helicopter & Airboat Adventure — from $688 per person

The highest-priced option at from $688 per person combines helicopter flight with approximately 1 hour of airboating and at least 10 minutes on the glacier itself. The 3.25-hour total is comparable to the Walkabout in length, but the itinerary is split across two modes of travel. This tour is the only option that includes an airboat component.

Cruise Ship Scheduling

All four tours carry the same scheduling requirement: book at least one hour after your ship's scheduled arrival time, and confirm that the tour concludes no less than 45 minutes before your ship's departure. If port times shift after booking, contact the operator directly to adjust. This buffer applies across all tours regardless of duration, so the 4.25-hour options require careful attention to port schedules, particularly on shorter port calls.

FAQ

Questions? Answered.

How much time do I actually spend on the glacier?

It depends on the tour. The Walkabout includes 1 hour on the glacier. The Trek and Ice Climbing Tour each include 2 hours on the glacier. The Airboat Adventure includes at least 10 minutes on the glacier, with the remaining active time spent airboating. Flight time to and from the glacier is approximately 30 minutes across all four tours.

What is the price difference between the Trek and the Ice Climbing Tour?

The Helicopter Glacier Trek is from $549 per person and the Helicopter Glacier Ice Climbing Tour is from $599 per person. Both run 4.25 hours total with 2 hours on the glacier. The difference is the activity on the ice: the Trek focuses on guided hiking across glacial terrain, while the Ice Climbing Tour adds a technical climbing component.

Can I book one of these tours on the same day as a cruise port call?

Yes, but timing is critical. Every tour requires a booking window that starts at least one hour after ship arrival and ends no less than 45 minutes before departure. The 4.25-hour tours leave less scheduling flexibility than the 3.25-hour options, so confirm your ship's port schedule before selecting a tour length.
